I thought that with summer on the horizon, it might be a good time to share a few doable destinations with you!  Last July, Dave and I ventured out in Large Marge on what we affectionately dubbed the “Hall of Fame Tour”.  Three stops:  Cleveland for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame; Canton, Ohio for the Pro Football Hall of Fame, and the National Comedy Centre in Jamestown, NY – birthplace of Lucille Ball!!!

Cleveland is an easy day’s drive from Simcoe, but plan to stay over nearby to get an early start at the museum.  What an amazing building, surrounded by parkland and walking paths.  In the same area, there is an aquarium, a lake freighter museum, and Cleveland Browns Stadium.  Cleveland has poured a lot of heart and soul into reviving their downtown and it really shows in this collection of complexes.

Inside the Rock Hall, we were greeted by artefacts from all eras of the life of Rock & Roll!

There were fabulous interactive exhibits featuring the music and artists of my life, and we joined throngs of people who were all enjoying reading facts, watching films, and seeing the costumes of the performers who have been inducted.  For me, a special exhibit about the Beatles’ last rooftop concert in London just prior to their breakup was especially moving.  I also loved seeing a guitar that had been owned by Bob Dylan and played by Robbie Robertson on one of my favourite songs, “The Weight”.   Knowing that along with Robertson, Norfolk local Rick Danko was inducted into the Hall of Fame alongside other members of The Band really struck me when seeing all the plaques, signed by artists.

You can view/hear curated playlists on the Rock Hall’s Spotify or YouTube channels, but if you have a chance to drive around Lake Erie to Cleveland, do it!  The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has something for everyone, and it’s easy to skip the music you don’t love to get lost in the sounds you do!  Gawk at Dolly’s spangled dresses, jam out in the hands-on garage band studios, or check out your favourite one-hit-wonders!  Plan on at least three hours, although you could easily stay the better part of a day!!!!!

Safe Travels
