Up early from the LTV rally at Golden Lake Park near Bonnechere River, we got o the road at 7:00 am for the Quebec segment of this Large Marge adventure. Today our journey took us to the serene and historically rich Manoir Papineau, a notable Parks Canada site, followed by a delightful stop at a local chocolatier. This trip discobery was a perfect blend of history, culture, and indulgence, offering an unforgettable experience for all senses.

Stepping Back in Time at Manoir Papineau

Manoir Papineau, nestled in the picturesque setting of Montebello, serves as a magnificent testament to the legacy of Louis-Joseph Papineau, a significant figure in the history of Lower Canada and Quebec. Papineau, a fervent advocate for the rights of French Canadians, played a pivotal role in the political landscape of the early 19th century. His manor, built in the 1850s, is a grand example of seigneurial life and offers a glimpse into the opulent lifestyle of one of Quebec's most influential figures.

While the manoir itself was not open for season yet I understand that walking through the beautifully preserved rooms of the manor, one can't help but feel transported back in time. The intricate details of the architecture, the carefully curated artifacts, and the lush gardens surrounding the property all contribute to a profound appreciation of Quebec's rich heritage.

The Iconic Red Chairs of Parks Canada

One of the highlights of visiting Parks Canada sites is the opportunity to relax in the iconic red chairs strategically placed in some of the most scenic spots. At Manoir Papineau, these chairs offer a perfect vantage point to soak in the breathtaking views of the Ottawa River and the surrounding landscape. Sitting in these chairs, we took a moment to reflect on the historical significance of the location and the natural beauty that envelops it.

A Sweet Treat at the Local Chocolatier

After our historical exploration, we treated ourselves to a visit to a local chocolatier. The experience was nothing short of magical. The rich aroma of chocolate greeted us as we entered, and we were soon lost in a world of decadent delights. From creamy truffles to unique flavor combinations, every bite was a testament to the chocolatier's craftsmanship and passion.

Camping at Levis: A Stone's Throw from Quebec City

To complete our trip, we stayed at a charming campground in Levis, conveniently located just across the river from Quebec City. The campground offered a peaceful retreat with all the amenities we needed. Its proximity to Quebec City and the shuttle from the campground to the fairy makes it easy for us to explore tomorrow, the historic old town, with its cobblestone streets, vibrant culture, and stunning architecture.

Conclusion

Our journey to Manoir Papineau and the local chocolatier was a perfect blend of history, relaxation, and indulgence. Whether you're a history buff, a nature lover, or a chocolate enthusiast, this trip has something for everyone. So pack your bags, and get ready to explore the rich tapestry of Quebec's heritage and culinary delights.
