If you've been following Lynn and Dave of RetiredReinspired, you’ve certainly seen our e-bikes in action. With our RV "Large Marge," we've been fortunate to have a bike container attached. While Large Marge offers the comfort of home on the road, at 26', it's not always convenient to drive around once we're settled in a campground. We prefer not to tow a car like many Leisure Travel Van (LTV) owners do. Instead, we rely on our bikes for local exploration.
We started our RV journey with regular Giant brand Cruisers. Lynn's bike, named Liv, was great, but her knee issues and hills were challenging obstacles. I love to ride hard, so I'd often ride ahead and wait for Lynn to catch up. Enter the equalizer: e-bikes. After researching e-bike features, we decided on Giant center drive pedal assist e-bikes. We chose these for their quality and because we didn't want throttle e-bikes.
When Lynn got her e-bike, everything changed. We could ride together, and the pedal assist gave her an advantage on hills and tough terrain. Sometimes, she even left me behind! About a year later, I got my own Giant Talon e-bike. The ease of climbing hills and the increased travel range allow us to explore more diverse and interesting places together, whether on an RV trip or local rail trails.
Why Retirees Should Get an eBike
Enhanced Mobility: eBikes, especially with pedal assist, help retirees with knee or joint issues by providing extra power when needed. Hills and long distances become manageable, allowing for longer, more enjoyable rides.
Fitness and Health: Riding an eBike is a great low-impact exercise that keeps you active without straining your body. It promotes cardiovascular health and overall wellness.
Convenient Travel: For RV travelers, eBikes are perfect for exploring the area without needing to move the RV. They are easy to store and can take you places where larger vehicles can't go.
Environmental Benefits: eBikes are an eco-friendly transportation option. They reduce your carbon footprint and promote a sustainable lifestyle.
Social and Recreational Opportunities: eBikes allow you to join group rides and socialize with fellow enthusiasts. They also open up more recreational possibilities, from scenic trails to urban explorations.
Understanding eBike Drive Systems
Throttle: Allows you to control the bike’s speed with a throttle, similar to a motorcycle. It's great for those who need a break from pedaling but can be less efficient for long distances.
Pedal Assist: Provides a boost while you pedal. It feels more like traditional biking and helps with hills and long rides. This system is our favorite for its natural feel and efficiency.
Center Drive: Positioned at the bike’s crank, it offers better weight distribution and balance, making it ideal for a smoother ride and better handling on varied terrains.
Wheel Drive: Located in the front or rear wheel, it’s easier to install and often more affordable. However, it can affect the bike’s balance compared to center drive systems.
Our eBike Journey Highlights
Last fall, we rode our eBikes from the precipice of Niagara Falls all the way to Niagara-on-the-Lake. The round trip was over 40 km and included a steep climb up an escarpment road. This journey would have been impossible for us without our eBikes. The pedal assist made the ride enjoyable and feasible, allowing us to experience the beauty of the area together.
Giant eBikes have truly transformed our travel experiences, making every ride an adventure. For over 50 retirees, especially those who travel in RVs, an eBike is a game-changer. It offers freedom, fitness, and fun, turning every trip into a memorable journey. So why wait? Join us on the road to better health and endless exploration with Giant eBikes
Happy Biking
