For a refreshing change from our usual Greek, Italian, or Vietnamese dining spots, we decided to celebrate my 60th birthday at a Korean BBQ restaurant. Just a short drive from our home, Spring Grill House offered us a delightful opportunity to savor some of the best BBQ meats and fish. This dining experience was a fun and interactive way to celebrate such a milestone, blending great food with a bit of culinary adventure.
The Korean BBQ Experience
Korean BBQ is a unique dining experience where guests become the chefs, cooking their own meals right at the table. Each table at Spring Grill House is equipped with a round gas grill, making it easy to cook an array of vegetables, meats, and fish to perfection. This style of dining is not only delicious but also highly engaging, as everyone gets involved in preparing their own food.
Historically, Korean BBQ, known as "gogi-gui," has its roots in the nomadic traditions of ancient Korea, where meat was grilled over open fires. Over centuries, it has evolved into a popular dining style, celebrated for its communal and interactive nature. The modern Korean BBQ restaurant allows diners to experience this tradition in a more refined setting, complete with a variety of side dishes and condiments that enhance the flavors of the grilled items.
Our Evening at Spring Grill House

Spring Grill House, located at 1441 Upper James St, Hamilton, made for the perfect birthday venue. Despite it being a Wednesday night at 6 pm, we were able to walk in without a reservation. However, based on its popularity, it’s advisable to book ahead, especially on Fridays or Saturdays when waiting times can be longer.
The restaurant offers a broad selection of meats, including beef, pork, chicken, and seafood, all ready to be grilled at your table. The meat quality was exceptional, and each bite was tender and flavorful. We made sure to order lettuce leaves, which added a fresh, crisp element to our meal. Wrapping the freshly cooked meat in lettuce, along with a bit of rice and some savory sauce, created delightful, bite-sized wraps that were both fun and delicious to eat.

In addition to the BBQ options, Spring Grill House also features an assortment of dim sum. These small, flavorful dishes were the perfect complement to our meal. We particularly enjoyed the variety they brought to the table, offering a taste of something different between bites of grilled meat.
Must-Try Desserts

No meal is complete without dessert, and Spring Grill House did not disappoint. I highly recommend trying the custard steam buns and the rice balls. The custard steam buns were soft, fluffy, and filled with a rich, creamy custard that was simply heavenly. The rice balls, on the other hand, provided a sweet, chewy contrast, rounding off our meal perfectly.
Final Thoughts
Our evening at Spring Grill House was a memorable way to celebrate my 60th birthday. The combination of high-quality meats, the fun of grilling at the table, and the variety of side dishes and desserts made for a dining experience that was both unique and thoroughly enjoyable. If you're looking to try something different from your usual dining spots, I highly recommend giving Korean BBQ a try at Spring Grill House. It’s a culinary adventure that promises great food, fun, and a bit of history on your plate.
